2. Yanni Questions That Get Asked A Lot:
Q. WHAT ARE THE WORDS TO 'ARIA'?
A. There aren't any words. They are 'vocal expressions' or sounds. The song
is loosely based on a French Opera from the 19th century called 'Lakme' by
Leo Delibes. 'Aria' was first used in a commercial for British Airways
and later developed into the full song you now know and can't get out of
your head (at least I can't... but that's okay by me).
Q. CAN I BUY THE LIVE VERSION OF 'ARIA' FROM 'LIVE AT THE ACROPOLIS'?
A. A recently released 'greatest hits' CD has been released by Windham
Hill, and it contains the live version. The CD is called "In the Mirror."
Q. WHEN IS YANNI COMING TO... [insert various towns or countries here]?
A. He's not on tour right now. No solid word on when he will be touring
again... probably sometime in 1999, but I'm not sure.
Q. WHERE DOES YANNI LIVE?
A. He recently purchased a home in Florida (not exactly sure where). He
also has a home in Los Angeles, and either does or did have a home near
Seattle.
Q. WHEN'S A NEW ALBUM COMING OUT?
A. His latest release is "Tribute," which came out in November, 1997.
No word on when another will be released.
Q. IS YANNI MARRIES/SEEING ANYONE?
A. Not as far as I know. He used to be with actress Linda Evans, but
they split up in not too long ago after several years together.
Q. IS THERE SHEET MUSIC AVAILABLE FOR YANNI'S MUSIC?
A. Yep... there are two full books, plus another that contains some Yanni
songs and other artists' songs. They should be available through most
stores that sell sheet music, through Hal Leonard Publishing, and through
YIN (Yanni International)... see the Unofficial Yanni Web Page for the
address for YIN. Please note that this page and mailing list are not
affiliated with Yanni, Private Music, BMG Entertainment, or YIN. See
http://www.teleport.com/~celinec/yanni/yan_sheet.shtml for more info on the
books available.
Q. IS THERE AN OFFICIAL YANNI WEB PAGE?
A. Yep. It's at http://www.yannitribute.com.
Q. IS YANNI HIMSELF ON THE WEB/INTERNET?
A. All indications are that he isn't. It doesn't seem that it's likely to
happen, either.
Q. HOW OLD IS YANNI?
A. He was born in 1954, on November 14th. This date has been confirmed.
Q. WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFO ON YANNI?
A. From the list (which is full of the coolest, nicest people on the
internet), and from the Unofficial Yanni Web Page, which contains links to
a few other Yanni related sites. Feel free to ask questions to the kind
folks on the list, post comments, etc.
3. A Few Reminders, Rules, Suggestions, Etc
- All list spammers will be reported to the postmaster of their internet
provider immediately. No ads, flames, or foul language will be tolerated.
I can't stress this enough -- please be respectful of others' opinions,
and they will hopefully respect you in return.
- Please quote only the relevant parts of a message when replying.
Especially avoid quoting the message footer that's attached to all
messages. This has been a problem as of late...
- Disagreements happen -- if you have a problem with someone on the list,
please try to work it out privately (through personal email). If a problem
persists, email me (celinec@teleport.com) privately. And some topics are
better left untouched (John Tesh seems to be one), because people's
opinions vary greatly sometimes, which can bring up strong emotions and
disagreements that don't really have a place on this list. Any topics that
should be left alone are decided upon by the members of the list as a
whole, not by me alone.
- Please try to stay on topic, which is, of course, Yanni and his music. A
little straying is acceptable, but if you really want to pursue other
topics, please do so in private email.
- The mailing list is set up to automatically suspend your subscription
should you bounce to many messages to your email box. It will send you
warnings should this occur, but if it can't get through to you, then
obviously you won't see the warnings. If you stop receiving messages, even
if you didn't know you were having problems with your email, that probably
means you were unsubscribed. Please resubscribe to the list to again
receive messages. I would email to let you know what happened, but if the
list can't deliver email to you, neither can I.
4. Odds and Ends (Troubleshooting, etc.)
Q. HELP! I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH ALL THE EMAIL BEING SENT FROM THIS LIST!!
A. Take a deep breath, and try to remain calm. I have a suggestion that
just might work. Try subscribing to the *digest* version of
this list (see 1. List Info for instructions), and unsubscribe from the
*normal* version. A digest is where all the email from a given time
period (in this case, it's once a day) is compiled into one rather long
email message. So you get one messages every day instead of several per
day.
Q. I WANT TO UNSUBSCRIBE, BUT I DIDN'T KEEP MY 'WELCOME TO YANNIFANS' EMAIL THAT CONTAIN THE INSTRUCTIONS. CAN I EMAIL YANNIFANS@TELELISTS.COM TO
UNSUBSCRIBE?
A. NO!!!!!!!!! Every single email you receive from the list contains
information on how to unsubscribe. Simply follow those instructions.
It's not hard. :)
Q. I WANT TO ADD SOMETHING TO THIS FAQ. WHERE DO I WRITE WITH MY
SUGGESTIONS?
A. Anyone is welcome to email me (celinec@teleport.com) with suggestions
for this FAQ, or you can post suggestions to the list. This FAQ is a work
in progress, so please feel free to add to it.
Q. I WANT TO SEND AN ATTACHMENT (SUCH AS A MIDI FILE, ETC.) TO
YANNIFANS@TELELISTS.COM. SHOULD I?
A. Attachments aren't accepted to the list itself. If you want to sent it
to just one or a few people on the list, then send it to their private
email addresses, not to the list. And if you want everyone to have access
to the list, try to find a web space to put it on, then post the URL (where
the file is located) to the list.. Chances are you have your own web space
with your online service or internet account, so explore that first. You
can also email me (celinec@teleport.com) if you think it would be a good
thing to put on my Unofficial Yanni Web Page (I have MIDI files, concert
photos, etc. currently, and am always looking for more stuff to add).
Q. I WANT TO POST AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR A PRODUCT THAT I'M SURE THE LIST
SUBSCRIBERS WILL JUST LOVE. CAN I?
A. No. Ads are not allowed, and there are no exceptions. This is known as
list spamming, and will not be tolerated. You will be unsubscribed from the
list, and possibly (more like probably) reported to your email provider's
postmaster (who has the ability to terminate your internet account for
spamming).
Q. I WANT TO ALERT FELLOW MEMBERS TO A POSSIBLE EMAIL VIRUS. WHAT'CHA THINK
OF THAT?
A. I can perfectly understand wanting to look out for your fellow list
members. But be aware of how viruses are really spread before alerting
others. Your system cannot be infected by a virus simply by reading
an email message. If you receive an email that has a binary attachment,
and you download or decode and run that attachment without first checking
the file with anti-virus software, then it could become infected if that
file contains a virus. For more information on such software, please see:
And for more info on the most notorious email virus myth, Good Times,
please see:
We don't want to perpetuate hoaxes and myths on the list, so please do some
checking on the validity of supposed viruses before posting.
Q. SO, CHAIN LETTERS...
A. No chain letters (you know, the ones which tell you to forward it to x number of your friends), advertisements, get rich quick schemes, misleading
emails about a product or services, etc. In other words, this list is
about Yanni and *relates* topics. Please, stick to that for the sake of
everyone on the list.
Q. I WANT TO POST AN ARTICLE OR OTHER COPYRIGHTED PRINTED MATERIAL ABOUT
YANNI TO THE LIST. ANY PROBLEM WITH THAT?
A. Yes, I'm afraid. Since reproducing someone else's work is a copyright
infringement (a work is almost certainly copyrighted unless specifically
placed into the public domain by the author, even if it doesn't have a
copyright notice), I don't want it reproduced on the list. It may seem
harmless, but you would be, in effect, distributing a copyrighted work to
about 200+ people. You can quote portions of something to prove a point
(such as for research purposes), but not in its entirety.
Q. I'M A SUBSCRIBER UNDER ONE EMAIL ADDRESS, BUT I WANT TO POST FROM
ANOTHER. CAN I DO THIS?
A. Not unless you subscribe the other address. Only those addresses that
are subscribed can post. It will just be bounced to me (Celine) otherwise.
This is to help prevent non-members from spamming the list. This can
sometimes be a pain to subscribers who don't have their email programs
configured correctly to account for their providers adding machine names,
etc., to their 'from' fields in their emails (see the next question), but
it's better than having to put up with spammers.
Q. I'M TRYING TO POST FROM THE SUBSCRIBED ADDRESS, BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO DO
IT. I SEND MY POST BUT THEN I DON'T SEE IT ON THE LIST. WHAT GIVES?
A. First, make sure you are emailing yannifans@telelists.com. If you
are and your post still doesn't show up (give it a day to account for slow
processing time on email), then check how your email address shows up in
your mail program. Is is the same as how you subscribed? The mailing list
needs your address exactly, or it doesn't know if it's you posting or a
non-member. If this all sounds too confusing, email me
(celinec@teleport.com) and I'll try to figure out the problem.
Q. I EMAILED YOU AT CELINEC@TELEPORT.COM WITH A PRIVATE QUESTION OR COMMENT
AND I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK. ARE YOU IGNORING ME?
A. No, I'm sure not. I read all the email I receive, and on occasion
actually remember to respond... I get a lot of email every day, and I don't
always keep up. If I don't respond, bug me until I do. I don't mean to
forget and/or procrastinate on getting back to people, but I have a
tendency to succeed, anyway. But, I can say I've been better about this
bad habit... but I'm not 100% cured. Please forgive me.
Q. WHEN ARE ALL THESE Q's AND A's GOING TO END, ALREADY???
A. Oh, I don't know... I thought I would just keep rambling............
